Gus Technology and N&M Announce Strategic Partnership on Silicon Photonics-Based Gas Detection for EV Batteries
We’re proud to announce our partnership with Gus Technology to co-develop a gas detection solution for automotive lithium batteries. This partnership marks a significant step. By integrating N&M’s silicon photonic sensing technology with Gus’s advanced solid-state battery systems, we aim to enhance the safety and reliability of electric vehicles.
As lithium batteries age, they may emit toxic and flammable gases due to chemical degradation, which poses serious safety risks. Our advanced and high-sensitivity photonic sensors can detect these gases at an early stage, helping prevent thermal runaway or leakage incidents before they occur.
This solution not only advances early warning systems for EV battery safety but also sets the stage for scalable integration into next-generation battery management systems. By leveraging the miniaturization and low-power advantages of silicon photonics, the platform enables real-time gas monitoring in compact form factors—supporting both in-vehicle diagnostics and future smart mobility infrastructure.
This collaboration represents the powerful convergence of next-gen sensing and battery technologies and highlights Taiwan’s innovation strength in both semiconductors and renewable energy. By enabling timely detection of gas emissions linked to battery aging, Gus and N&M are working together to improve the safety, reliability, and longevity of electric vehicles for drivers and passengers worldwide.
