Taiwan Nano & Micro-Photonics (N&M) has recently joined the SEMI Silicon Photonics Alliance, aligning with the alliance's vision of fostering industry collaboration and building a comprehensive silicon photonics ecosystem. N&M Chairman Rone Chiu participated in the alliance’s year-end gathering, where industry leaders discussed the future development of Taiwan’s silicon photonics sector and advocated for the potential of silicon photonics “Beyond Communication.”

As a member of the Silicon Photonics Alliance, Taiwan Nano & Micro-Photonics is recognized for its excellence in silicon photonics sensing applications, standing alongside companies like MediaTek in advancing silicon photonics chip design. Representing N&M, Chairman Rone Chiu expressed gratitude to SEMI for providing a platform that facilitates resource integration and the expansion of silicon photonics applications in Taiwan. "We are honored to be part of this alliance and will work hand in hand with industry partners to drive technological advancements," Rone remarked.
During his address, Rone shared that while current silicon photonics applications remain concentrated in the communication field, particularly in high-speed interconnect technologies, N&M is dedicated to pioneering innovations in sensing. Silicon photonics sensing offers not only significant cost reductions but also unparalleled sensitivity at comparable costs. Applications include environmental monitoring, food safety testing, human biometrics, and in-vehicle safety solutions for alcohol and CO₂ detection. N&M also envisions expanding silicon photonics into computing, aiming to unlock broader application opportunities.
