Rone Chiu, Chairman of Taiwan Nano & Micro-Photonics (N&M), was invited to attend the 2024 Finnish National Day Reception, celebrating the occasion with distinguished guests from Taiwan and abroad. The invitation highlights not only N&M’s well wishes to Finland but also international recognition of the company's efforts in fostering global cooperation.
Laurie, Representative of the Finnish Trade Office, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Wu Chih-Chung delivered welcoming remarks and keynote speeches, respectively. Both emphasized the growing collaboration between Taiwan and Finland in fields such as ICT, green energy, national defense, and societal resilience. Recent joint efforts, including economic cooperation meetings, quantum technology forums, and international civil resilience training workshops, have significantly strengthened bilateral relations.
Laurie highlighted Finland's commitment to enhancing trade with Taiwan through initiatives like the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) event held in June. He also noted Finland-Taiwan bilateral trade had reached €1.3 billion this year, making Taiwan Finland’s third-largest import partner outside Europe, a testament to the continued efforts of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economic Affairs.
During the reception, Rone Chiu praised Finland’s achievements in quantum computing and cryogenic control technology. He shared N&M’s latest advancements in silicon photonic sensing and expressed aspirations to explore quantum sensing and quantum computing as future development directions. Rone emphasized that Finland’s expertise and leadership in quantum technology make it a model for Taiwan to collaborate with and learn from.
Rone further highlighted N&M’s commitment to driving innovation in silicon photonics sensing technology, enabling diverse applications spanning sensing, communication, and computing. He reiterated the importance of understanding global partners' needs and developing breakthrough chips that shape the industry's trajectory.
The Finnish National Day Reception not only celebrated the strong friendship between Taiwan and Finland but also laid a solid foundation for future technological collaboration. N&M looks forward to expanding international exchanges and partnerships, promoting Taiwan’s technological advancements on the global stage, and deepening bilateral ties to usher in a new era of quantum technology and silicon photonics applications.
